Identity & the Internet

Why I Respect Parents Who Don’t Want Their Children's Faces Shared Online

Parents are growing increasingly wary of posting their children's faces on the internet, and for good reason! In a world where basically everything ends up plastered on the interwebs, it's no surprise that many parents are choosing to keep their children's faces offline. As a family photographer, this is a decision I fully support & appreciate, in spite of the fact that it can result in fewer photos I post to my online portfolio. My goal is to capture beautiful, meaningful moments for your family, while respecting your boundaries and preferences.

So you've decided to hire me as your photographer, but you don't want your child's face on the internet. Now what?

How I Photograph With Privacy in Mind

If you prefer that your child’s face not be shown online, I’d still love share the beauty of your family session — just differently. I’d focus on storytelling moments that don’t reveal identities:

  • Tiny hands clutching yours
  • Wind-tousled hair from behind
  • Sweet snuggles from a side angle
  • Little feet running through the grass
  • Laughter, movement, connection — all without a full face in view

These images still capture the feeling of your family, the love you share, and the season you’re in, all while keeping your child’s privacy intact.

So whether it’s for safety, privacy, or simply peace of mind, deciding not to share your child’s face online is a decision you’ll never need to explain or justify to me — I commend it, and I honor it.

Your Photos, Your Rules

Before I share anything from your session, I always ask for permission. If you say no to sharing faces, I will never post them. No exceptions. You’re also welcome to review images before I post.

Your trust means everything to me, and my job isn’t just to take photos, it’s to create a safe, respectful experience for your family.
