How to Use your Product Photos Online

So you've invested in beautiful product photos, received your gallery, and downloaded your favorites. But now what? Marketing can be very overwhelming, even when you have content at your fingertips. That's why I'm want to share 5 ways you can use your images to get more eyes on your shop and boost your sales! Ready? Let's goooo!

1 - Spruce Up Your website

Think of your website as your storefront. It's often the first introduction of your brand to a new potential client, so make it a good first impression! Clear, professional product photos help build trust, and show your customers exactly what they’re getting. Use your photos for product listings, homepage banners, on your about page, and even pop-ups or promotional sections of your website. Sprinkle photos throughout your website to break up blocks of text and bring visual interest to every page.

2 - Creat Scroll-stopping Social Media posts

Every social media platform has one major thing in common-- they are all visual. Photos and videos rule the (online) world, so use your professional photos to get more eyes on your business! Use them for Instagram posts & reels, Facebook promotions, Pinterest pins (don’t skip Pinterest — it’s a secret weapon for product-based businesses!), and TikTok product highlights or behind-the-scenes clips, and Youtube shorts.

A great Reel/TikTok/Shorts idea is to capture short clips of video you in the process of creating your products, and then at the end include some of your professional photos so people can see the end result! Always be sure to make it easy for your potential customers to find the link to the products you're showing, to make it easy for them to "add to cart".

3 - Level up Your Email marketing

Never underestimate email marketing, it's the secret sauce to successful small businesses! Including product photos in your newsletters and sales emails can increase engagement and clicks. Try:

  • Showcasing a featured product of the week
  • Creating curated “shop the look” or seasonal collections
  • Highlighting customer favorites with visuals

When putting your email newsletter together, don't forget to add social proof. If you get product and/or business reviews, be sure to add them into your email. It's not only okay, but actually important, to toot your own horn once in a while. 😉 It helps potential customers make the decision to buy when they can see that others have loved the purchases they've made from you.

4 - Boost Your Online Listings

Are you selling on Etsy, Amazon, eBay, or another platform? High-quality product photos can help your listings stand out from the crowd and earn more clicks. Be sure to add LOTS of different shots, so customers know exactly what they're getting. From lifestyle shots, to close-ups, to flat lays-- and always include multiple angles to give customers confidence to buy.

BONUS: upgrade your photo package to include product videos for the best chance to get your listings seen! Shoppers are 64-85% more likely to buy after watching a product video, which is why platforms like Etsy and Amazon are encouraging shops to include videos in their listings.

5 - Add Visuals to Your Blog or FAQs

As the old adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so you can use visuals to help answer your customers' questions! Use photos to show how your product works, size comparisons, styling ideas, and what's included in a package or set.

When you book a product session with me, I do my best to get all the different kinds of photos, so you can use them in all the ways we've talked about above. But of course, if you have a specific request, make sure to mention it in the questionnaire I send so I can be sure to capture all of the images you need.

Bonus Tip: Reuse + Repurpose

Don't forget that the same photo can be cropped or styled differently for multiple platforms. Consistency = trust + brand recognition, so the more you reuse your images, the more recognizable your brand will be!
