There’s something truly magical about photographing a couple who just clicks. This session at Deerfield Nature Park in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, with Dakota and Emma was filled with so much laughter, genuine connection, and a little unexpected weather that turned out to be pure magic.
A Nervous Start, a Natural Flow
Right after we started this session, my sweet couple let me know they were feeling nervous because another photographer once told them they "didn’t know what they were doing” in front of the camera (seriously, what?!). But let me tell you: they were total naturals. Within minutes, both of them were laughing, moving together with ease, and completely lighting each other up in front of the camera.
It was such a great reminder that you don’t need to be a model to get amazing photos. You just need to show up, be yourselves, and trust your photographer to guide you. (That’s me! 👋)
Rainy Beginnings, Golden Light
It was raining right up until minutes before we pulled into the parking lot. Like, down-pouring. I was honestly convinced the session wouldn't happen at all. But the clouds pulled back just enough to let in some absolutely stunning soft evening glow. The after-rain mist hung over the river, and it ended up being the perfect backdrop for the cozy, romantic vibes of their session.
Golden light + fresh rain + two people in love = a total photographer’s dream.
Cowboy Boots & Pure Joy
These two showed up in cowboy boots, and it felt like such an authentic touch that made the photos feel even more accurate for who they are. I love when couples bring their personal style into their session, and this felt so them in every frame.
One of my absolute favorite moments? After he gave her a playful piggyback ride, he surprised her by hopping onto her back next and they both burst into uncontrollable laughter. It was totally spontaneous and such a great depiction of them as a couple. Those little in-between moments are always where the magic happens, and my favorites to capture.
So In Love It Hurts (In the Best Way)
There’s no other way to describe these two than absolutely smitten. They were sweet, and so clearly head-over-heels for each other. Sessions like this make me fall in love with photography all over again.
